Our extensive enrichment offer is designed to give every child the opportunity to explore their strengths, try new experiences, develop confidence and learn key life skills. From music lessons to our active School Council, every pupil is encouraged to get involved in school life.

Music

At Walker, children can have lessons in singing, piano, woodwind, brass and strings. Lessons take place during the school day and are run by Enfield Music Service. Please contact them directly to book a place.

Children who have music lessons at Walker can join our school orchestra, which rehearses weekly and performs at concerts during the year.

Our much-loved Box Beaters drumming club is open to Year 5 and 6 pupils and is run by one of our experienced teachers, Robin Lurie. The Box Beaters rehearse regularly and love performing at festivals and events.

Sport

We host morning and after school sports clubs, including karate, football, netball, dance and gymnastics. Our Sports Captains encourage all children to get active and many of our pupils compete in local competitions and at sports festivals.

In Year 5, children have a term of swimming lessons at a local pool. We also work with Cycle Confident to run free Bikeability sessions at school. Children can work towards a level one or level two certificate.

School Leaders

Each year, children have the opportunity to take on a leadership role, representing their class in the School Council or as UNICEF Ambassadors, Eco-Council, Digital Leaders, Sports Captains or Head Buddies. These groups meet regularly to discuss ideas and help make decisions for the benefit of our school, our pupils and the community.

British Sign Language

Children in Reception to Year 4 have weekly lessons in British Sign Language (BSL). These lessons are taught by a specialist BSL instructor who also educates the children about deaf awareness.

Walker pupils love their BSL lessons and not only does it make our school more inclusive, it has academic benefits too, improving vocabulary, fine motor skills, memory retention and self-esteem.

Ivy Parliament

Our children represent the school in the Ivy Parliament, a thriving and influential body within Ivy Learning Trust. Every year, three new representatives from each Ivy school are elected to join the Parliament, which gives children a voice in educational and social issues.

Pupils meet regularly to discuss current themes and decide on an action plan for the year. In the past they have written to MPs, visited the Houses of Parliament, appeared in the local press and successfully lobbied to ban single-use plastic bottles from all Ivy schools.

Other Activities

Our pupils can choose from a busy timetable of morning and after school activities, from Lego robotics to cooking. Find out more about our clubs.

“Pupils receive an exceptional offer around their wider personal development. Leaders have structured personal, social, health and economic education so that it is woven throughout the curriculum. Pupils take part in regular debates and discussions. Teachers encourage pupils to learn about and show respect to different faiths and cultures. Pupils take their responsibilities seriously. For example, through their work as playground buddies and digital leaders, pupils help others to stay safe online.”
