We are passionate about ensuring that our children feel happy and safe at school and that they always have someone to talk to.
Inclusion Mentor
Our Inclusion Mentor is Joanne Andreou. She supports all children with their social, emotional or mental health needs, through both academic and personal development activities.
If you would like to speak to her, she can be contacted via the school office.
Ms Andreou holds regular lunchtime sessions, where children can enjoy activities such as art and loom-band making. Her door is always open to pupils who want a safe place to talk.
Trauma Informed Practice
Fostering a Trauma-Informed Approach in Enfield Schools
At Walker Primary School, we are proud participants in Enfield’s Trauma-Informed Practice in Schools and Settings –E-TIPSS – Initiative. This borough-wide partnership aims to support children, young people, and the adults caring for them through implementing a consistent, trauma-informed approach aligned with the Attachment Regulation and Competency (ARC) Framework.
The E-TIPSS approach provides a structured model and common language for trauma-informed practices across various settings in Enfield. It is integrated into our daily routines, school ethos, curriculum delivery, policy development, and communication with students, families, staff, and the broader community.
The E-TIPSS initiative offers three levels of support: Universal, Enhanced, and Implementation. This comprehensive approach ensures that trauma-informed practices are embedded throughout our school community.
At the heart of E-TIPSS is a partnership between educational, social care, health, and voluntary organizations. These partners have adapted their services to align with the ARC Framework, offering training, guidance, and support to schools and settings.
Key partners include:
- Educational Psychology Service (EPS)
- Enfield Advisory Service for Autism (EASA)
- Enfield Communication Advisory Support Service (ECASS)
- Speech and Language Therapy Service
- Virtual School for Looked After Children
- Primary Behaviour Support Service (SWERRL)
Through E-TIPSS, our school community receives training, resources, and ongoing support to create a compassionate, inclusive environment that promotes safety, builds resilience, nurtures connections, and provides tailored support for students who have experienced trauma or adverse childhood experiences.
By embracing this trauma-informed approach, we aim to foster a nurturing school environment that empowers every child to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally, recognizing and responding to their unique needs and experiences.
My Young Mind Enfield
My Young Mind Enfield also known as Mental Health Support Team in Schools, was created as part of the Government’s initiative to increase emotional wellbeing and mental health support to children and young people in schools. They work closely with the school and offer a range of support to children and young people experiencing mild to moderate emotional difficulties in school, such as anxiety, behaviour or friendship issues (Department of Health & Department for Education, 2017).
They will also be supporting our whole school approach to wellbeing, providing psychoeducational workshops or on-going groups to children, parents, and staff to promote mental health and wellbeing in the school community.
We have regular liaison with the team for advice and signposting.
If you’d like any more information, please speak with Mrs Andreou, our Inclusion Mentor and Senior Mental Health Lead.
Zones of Regulation
We use the Zones of Regulation with all pupils at Walker as a tool to express our emotions and behaviour.
