Pupil Premium Strategy

At Walker Primary School, we believe that every child deserves an exceptional education, regardless of their circumstances. Our Pupil Premium funding allows us to provide targeted support and resources to ensure that our disadvantaged pupils have the same opportunities to thrive and achieve their full potential.

Our three-year Pupil Premium strategy, spanning from 2023 to 2026, outlines our comprehensive approach to addressing the unique challenges faced by our disadvantaged students. We have carefully analysed data and identified key areas where additional support is needed, such as attendance, reading attainment, oral language skills, and overall wellbeing.

Attendance Matters

We understand that regular attendance is crucial for academic success. Our goal is to achieve sustained high attendance rates, with an unauthorised absence rate of no more than 0.9% and the percentage of persistently absent disadvantaged pupils being no more than 2% lower than their peers by 2026.

Reading for Success

Reading is the foundation for all learning. By 2026, we aim to have more than 89% of our disadvantaged pupils meeting the expected standard in reading at Key Stage 2. We will provide targeted interventions and support to ensure our students develop strong reading skills.

Unlocking Language

We recognise that underdeveloped oral language skills and vocabulary gaps can hinder academic progress. Through assessments, observations, and ongoing formative assessments, we will track the improvement of our disadvantaged pupils’ oral language abilities, aiming for significant progress by 2026.

Fostering Wellbeing

We believe that a positive wellbeing is essential for learning. By 2026, we aim to sustain high levels of wellbeing among our disadvantaged pupils, as demonstrated through qualitative data from pupil voice, surveys, and teacher observations. We will also strive for a significant reduction in friendship issues and increased participation in enrichment activities.

Our Strategies

To achieve these ambitious goals, we have carefully allocated our Pupil Premium funding towards evidence-based strategies and interventions. These include:

  • Diagnostic assessments to identify specific areas for development
  • Continuous professional development for our staff
  • Engaging with the National Tutoring Programme for targeted academic support
  • Employing counsellors and providing opportunities for pupils to talk about their well-being

We continuously review and evaluate the impact of our strategies, making adjustments as needed to ensure that our disadvantaged pupils receive the support they need to succeed.

At Walker Primary School, we are committed to breaking down barriers and empowering every student to reach their full potential. Our Pupil Premium strategy is an integral part of this commitment, ensuring that no child is left behind on their educational journey.
